Nguyen is now a senior scientist working on strawberry breeding for Driscoll’s, the California-based fourth-generation family business that controls roughly a third of the six-billion-dollar U.S. berry market. Driscoll's develops proprietary breeds of berries and then licenses them exclusively through approved growers. It’s nice to know that the berries we buy at Publix have a Florida connection.

A fascinating article by Dana Goodyear “How Driscolls Reinvented the Strawberry; "The berry behemoth turned produce into a beauty contest, and won,” appeared in the August 21,2007 issue of the New Yorker.
