If there is a silver lining to this very surreal time of social distancing it is that our calendars are clear and we have endless discretionary time. We can be alone but not lonely. Technology enables us to be in touch with family and friends around the globe. And we have more time to walk in the neighborhood and chat with friends. At home there is time for spring cleaning, organizing that closet you’ve been meaning to get to or going online to take advantage of the endless cultural riches available. You can watch a movie, an opera or a play, undertake a 1,000-piece jigsaw puzzle, learn a new skill or brush up on an old one.
When you go outdoors you realize how truly fortunate we are to live on this beautiful island nestled between the sea and the Indian River Lagoon. Our breezes are soft and fragrant, the temperatures are mild and the air is filled with birdsong. Our gardens beckon. Nothing relieves stress like time spent weeding, pruning or planting the garden. I wish each of you happy hours in yours.
